Jointly established by the University and Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao, China, the Lions and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Chinese Medicine Charity Foundation recently received two donations – a donation of HK$300,000 from Chariot Club Charitable Foundation Ltd. (CCCF) and a donation of HK$100,000 from Dr. Lam Hoi-ham, Chairman of the CCCF Board – in support of the “Privilege Scheme of Chinese Medicine Service for Elderly”.
To acknowledge the generosity of the donors, the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) held a cheque presentation ceremony on 15 May. Attending the ceremony were Dr. Jeffrey Tsang, Chairman of the Board of Chariot Club Ltd.; Dr. Lam Hoi-ham, Chairman of the CCCF Board; Mr. Danny Lau, Vice Chairman of the Board of Chariot Club Ltd.; Mr. Jimmy Ko, Chairman of the Charity Sub-committee; Ms. Terry Ching, General Manager; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development), HKBU; Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of SCM; and Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, Associate Dean of SCM.
In addition to expressing sincere appreciation to CCCF and Dr. Lam Hoi-ham for their generosity, Professor Rick Wong said that since the launch of the “Privilege Scheme of Chinese Medicine Service for Elderly” in 2007, more than 2,700 privilege cards had been issued to less privileged elderly patients suffering from chronic diseases. Around 18,000 coupons valued at HK$100 each had been used by the beneficiaries to avail of services at the eight clinics operated by SCM. Due to the growing demand for Chinese medicine healthcare services in the community, the Scheme has been oversubscribed. Fortunately, the support of CCCF and Dr. Lam Hoi-ham will enable the Scheme to continue to help needy elderly patients suffering from chronic diseases access the quality outpatient services provided by HKBU Chinese medicine clinics.
